Yes! I was just on there the other day and saw a fake quote. The horror! I thought about jumping in and identifying it as bogus, but thought that might be a slippery slope - I could spend all day doing that. Glad you are leaping into the breach!

I play around on the Facebook Thomas Jefferson page quite a bit and see people posting bogus quotations all the time. More often then not, I point them to the TH: J Encyclopedia. So yes, it is working.

What a delightful read, as always with A Summary View. It's a relief to read some twaddle now and then, if it's good twaddle. I hope this little book can still be found. Sounds like a fun read for a Virginian of Brit descent, like me. Jousting on the grounds of Monticello! How can you not love that image? HopeFUL Romantics of the South, keep twaddling!

Arrgh, 1776! That infernal production is responsible for more historical misconceptions, I swear...come to think of it, maybe it IS the source of this particular myth. I shall have to investigate...

But, but, but we SAW Jefferson and Franklin (and John Adams) sing about turkeys and eagles and doves in the musical 1776. True, that was several years before the documented discussion of the U.S. seal. And Jefferson wasn't championing the eagle. And it was historical fiction in the form of a musical. But we SAW it.
